Taipei for Digital Nomads

Taiwan Digital Nomad Visa

Taiwan has become an increasingly popular destination for digital nomads due to its excellent infrastructure, high-speed internet, and vibrant culture. To accommodate remote workers who wish to live and work in Taiwan, the government has introduced the Digital Nomad Visitor Visa. This visa provides an opportunity for professionals to legally reside in Taiwan while working for an overseas employer or as a freelancer.

Eligibility

The Digital Nomad Visitor Visa is available only to nationals from visa-exempt countries. This means that applicants must hold a passport from a country that Taiwan allows visa-free entry.

Requirements

To apply for the Digital Nomad Visitor Visa, applicants must submit the following documents:

  • Completed and signed application form – The application form must be completed online at this website, printed, and signed.
  • Two identical color passport photos – Photos must be 45mm x 35mm, taken within the last six months, and feature a plain white background.
  • Passport (original and photocopy) – The passport must be valid for at least six months and contain blank pages.
  • Proof of remote work experience, which includes:
    • Personal resume or portfolio detailing academic background and work experience.
    • Valid work contract (for employees, a contract with their employer; for freelancers, contracts for current projects).
    • Completed “Description of Intended Activities” form.
  • Proof of meeting income or prior visa requirements:
    • If the applicant has previously obtained a digital nomad visa from another country, they must provide documentation.
    • If 30 years old or older, the applicant must show proof of earning an annual salary of at least USD 40,000 in one of the last two years.
    • If you are between 20 and 29 years old, the applicant must show proof of earning an annual salary of at least USD 20,000 in one of the last two years.
  • Proof of bank deposits – The applicant must provide bank statements for the past six months, demonstrating an average monthly balance of at least USD 10,000.
  • Proof of international health insurance – Coverage must include full hospitalization insurance for the entire duration of the applicant’s stay in Taiwan.
  • Other supporting documents – These may be requested on a case-by-case basis by Taiwan’s overseas missions.

Application Process

  1. Applicants outside Taiwan should submit their visa application to a Taiwanese overseas mission. The mission will forward the application to the National Development Council (NDC) for qualification review. Once approved, the application returns to the mission for final processing.
  2. Applicants already in Taiwan on a visa-exempt stay or a non-extendable visitor visa must submit their application at least 10 working days before their current visa expires. Applications are submitted to the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) or other Ministry of Foreign Affairs offices, which will then forward them to the NDC for review.
  3. An interview may be required for some applicants.

Notices

  • Taiwan retains the right to approve or deny visa applications at its discretion. Application fees are non-refundable, even if the visa is not granted.
  • If additional documents are requested, they must be submitted within three working days.
  • Applicants must leave Taiwan before their legal stay period expires if their visa application is denied.
