Malta Digital Nomad Visa Requirements
To be eligible for a Malta digital nomad visa, an applicant must be a non-EU citizen and have a monthly income of at least €2,700. The applicant must work for an employer registered outside Malta or be a partner/shareholder in a company that is registered in a foreign country. While in Malta, the applicant must work by using telecommunications technology.
To apply for a nomad visa in Malta, an applicant must gather and submit all the required documents and submit the application online. After the application has been processed, the applicant can travel to Malta and collect their Nomad Residence Permit. The application fee for the digital nomad visa is €300 for each applicant. If the applicant is a third-country national who requires a visa to enter Malta, they will also need to pay an extra €300 for Premium Processing of the visa before arriving.
The Malta digital nomad visa is valid for a year. However, applicants can apply to extend their visa if they are still eligible to do so. They need to apply before their initial digital nomad visa expires at the Residency Malta Agency. Digital nomads do not have to pay taxes in Malta if they do not have any income obtained from Malta. If they have tax residency in their home country, they do not need to pay tax in Malta even if they live there for longer than 183 days per year. However, they must prove that they are paying taxes by providing the necessary documents.

What do I need?
- Valid Passport: You need a valid passport with at least two blank pages. Copies of all pages, including the blank ones, must be submitted.
- Application Form N1: For the nomad residence permit.
- Application Form N2: For bringing a family member to Malta.
- Application Form N4: GDPR Declaration Form.
- Cover Letter: A cover letter must be submitted, and it should include important details of your trip to Malta, such as the reason why you have chosen Malta as a freelancer, how long you plan to stay, where you plan to stay, etc.
- Work Contract: Proof that you’ll have stable income as a freelancer, work contracts describing your job position, etc.
- CV: Ensure you update your CV with your latest job experiences.
- Relationship Status: Document proof of marriage or in a relationship.
- Proof of Accommodation: Provide proof that you have a place to stay in Malta, such as a rental agreement.
- Bank Statement: Your bank statement from the last six months. This document proves that you are financially stable and can finance yourself while staying in Malta.
- Health Insurance: Valid health insurance for the length of your stay in Malta.
- Health Declaration: Medical documents proving that you are in good health condition.
- €300 for each applicant.
- Third-country nationals who requires a visa to enter Malta, pay an extra €300 for Premium Processing of the visa.
