The Nomad Summit Is Returning to Chiang Mai, Thailand for an Entire Week of Events
The very first conference for digital nomads is back and bigger than ever in the place where it all began – Chiang Mai, Thailand. First held in 2015 by founder and early nomad influencer Johnny FD, the Nomad Summit provided a place for like-minded individuals to network and share ideas. Over six years, it brought people together in three locations— Chiang Mai, Las Vegas, and Cancun—before being forced to shut down during the pandemic. After Johnny FD had to delay a planned summit in Tbilisi, Georgia in 2020 and later refund tickets in 2022, he decided that the Nomad Summit would end for good.
When Christoph Huebner attended the Nomad Summit, he never thought he would one day be the one on stage, leading the charge. But a chance encounter with Johnny FD on the street in Kiev, Ukraine (Johnny was living across the street from Christoph’s hotel) would plant the seeds to bring the Nomad Summit back.
The digital nomad landscape has changed dramatically since the last Nomad Summit. Multiple nomad conferences take place throughout the year and the idea of working remotely has become normalized. To make the Nomad Summit 2.0 stand out, Christoph partnered with Kai Isand, organizer of Latitude59, the flagship startup and tech event of Estonia. “I was afraid, “Christoph recalled, “that if I didn’t go outside of the digital nomad community, the new Nomad Summit would, in the end, maybe just look like all the other nomad events.”
And Nomad Summit definitely intends to be different – aiming to bring together people passionate about building, hosting a three-day conference from January 17-19, 2025 followed by a week of side events organized by ticket holders themselves (January 20-26). Unlike many conferences that give attendees the chance to host their own sessions only after they’ve arrived to the event, Nomad Summit is asking ticket holders for their ideas in advance, finding Chiang Mai venues to host them, and putting the schedule together with enough lead time to give attendees the chance to really add something special. “We haven’t turned anyone down yet. We are trying to accommodate anyone with an idea,” Christoph said.
People coming to Chiang Mai who don’t have a ticket to Nomad Summit but are interested in attending a side event will also have the option to pay separately for these sessions, another feature that has not been tried before at this magnitude at a digital nomad conference. By spreading the conference across Chiang Mai, YouTubers, for example, could host an event about making YouTube videos while taking a small group of fellow YouTubers along the Ping River. People wanting to conduct a yoga session could do it in a beautiful Chang Mai setting rather than a public park or the back corner of a conference room.
Nomad Summit has also partnered with accommodations in Chiang Mai to help attendees find the best options to suit their budgets yet also give back to the community. Tickets to the Nomad Summit start at $299 for a standard and $399 for premium.
Johnny FD will be in Chiang Mai to officially hand over the Nomad Summit to its new organizers and celebrate the return of Nomad Summit, which promises to be an exciting new iteration of the digital nomad conference that started it all. And in case you can’t make it to Thailand, Nomad Summit plans to get back on the road and organize more events around the world – so watch this space.
